A New Choice for Chinese Enterprises to "Go Global"

After three years of the epidemic, in the face of opportunities and challenges in the global market, Chinese companies are bound to embark on a new path of overseas development.

"This year's schedule for large-scale exhibitions and major customer visits in 10 overseas countries is already full. The goal for 2023 is to increase by about 60%-70% compared to 2022."

The opening up after the epidemic has injected vitality into the foreign trade industry. Going out, running exhibitions, expanding new customers, and actively grabbing overseas markets are vivid footnotes for current foreign trade people. However, this year's global economic downturn and weakening external demand are also unavoidable pressures.

What difficulties will enterprises face in exporting this year? Where is the new growth point of "going out"? Which markets are full of opportunities? A number of relevant people told the reporter...

Facing Internal and External Pressure

The main plan of Sun Antai, general manager of Shandong Liaocheng Harman Metal Materials Co., Ltd. this year is to go overseas to participate in the exhibition.

As the person in charge of a metal crafts export company, Sun Antai said frankly that after the epidemic was lifted this year, everyone had high expectations and felt good, but judging from the current orders and actual feedback, it is not as good as last year, and there is still a gap year-on-year. "Our products are generally exported to Europe, America and other countries. Now many customers' production lines will be transferred to Vietnam, which will bring us some pressure. Therefore, we hope to expand the market by participating in the exhibition."

Entering 2023, the global economic and trade situation will become extremely severe, and the downward pressure will increase significantly. Li Xingqian, director of the Foreign Trade Department of the Ministry of Commerce, said at a press conference in early February, "The main contradiction in my country's foreign trade field has changed from last year's supply chain obstruction and insufficient contract performance capabilities to the current weakening of external demand and decline in orders. It's an important change."

In this regard, the Ministry of Commerce has made it clear that foreign trade enterprises must do these four things well:

Resume physical exhibitions, promote domestic trade exhibitions to fully resume offline exhibitions, and hold a series of key exhibitions such as the China International Import Expo, Canton Fair, and China International High-tech Achievements Fair;

Make good use of new formats, promote the further development of new formats such as cross-border e-commerce and overseas warehouses, and drive the export of small, medium and micro foreign trade enterprises;

Discover new needs, give full play to the role of commercial agencies in embassies and consulates abroad, and assist local organizations to organize enterprises to carry out trade cooperation abroad;

Support enterprises to "go global" and provide more convenience for foreign trade enterprises to conduct cross-border business transactions
