1 | Choosing the right surface is important
In the process of beginning to rust, weathering steel will leave rust on the surface. Therefore, the most suitable surface for
weathering steel is grass, pebbles or sand. When the oxidation process is complete (which can take up to a year and a half),
the weathering steel is no longer stained and can therefore be placed on any surface without problems.
2 | Rust Prevention Layer to Prevent Corrosion
It is normal for weathering steel to rust due to weather conditions. This anti-rust layer also has a positive effect, it ensures
that the steel is not corroded through. Of course, it's also important that the fire pit can't always be in or under the water.
If you take this into account, your fire pit will remain beautiful for many years to come.
3 | Forming the perfect rust layer takes time
There are four stages in the oxidation process, and our fire pit is in stage three. They have taken on a rusty brown color,
but the rusting process can take up to a year and a half to complete. It is difficult to estimate the exact duration of this process,
as it largely depends on the location of the product and weather conditions.
4 | Speed up the rusting process? It is possible.
If you don't want to wait that long, you can use a plant sprayer to spray salt water onto the steel to speed up the process.
Natural vinegar with water also causes the pit to rust faster.
5 | The fire pits require no maintenance
The weathering steel itself forms an anti-rust protective layer that requires no further maintenance. Do you want to stop
the rust process after a period of time? It is possible to get a free Owatrol spray that comes with your fire bowl. The product
stops the formation of rusty water so that the soil is not damaged. It can also stop the rust process if you don't want the color
of the fire bowl to continue changing.

Weathering steel can also be melted and recycled because it is a steel without a chemical protective layer.
